How to Remove Rust Stains From Bath Tubs

Those reddish stains in your tub can be very unsightly and an eye sore in your bathroom.
The contact of any metal on the wet surface of your tub can leave behind a rusted stain, be it from the faucets or from that can of shaving foam you left behind unmindfully. It can be removed easily if detected early but if a rust stain is allowed for a longer period of time, it is likely to be tough to remove.

Here are few tips to remove rust stains from your bath tub.

Pumice Stone Method

Yes, you can use a pumice stone to remove rust stains. Though you might have one to remove dead skins from your feet, it is suggested you store another as your stain remover. Do not go for those cheap fake ones. Invest in a proper volcanic rock piece; they are not too expensive either.

Procedure:

  1. Simply wet the stone and start rubbing gently on the stain.
  2. You will a find a paste formation, as you scrub.
  3. Spread this paste on the stain, as you keep on scrubbing. Moisten the area frequently to enable the paste formation.
  4. Rinse with water.
  5. If you find any residual stain, sprinkle some baking soda on the area and brush with a tooth brush.
  6. This should be enough to remove the rust stains from your bath tub.

Baking Soda, Hydrogen Peroxide Method

  • This is another trick up my sleeve, if the above fail by any chance.
  • Mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide in the ratio 2:1 in a paste.
  • Clean the tub thoroughly with a commercial cleaner and sponge and remove stains as much as possible.
  • Spread the paste on the tub with the sponge, specially on the area that is heavily stained.
  • Let the paste sit on the stains for half an hour.
  • Scrub away a small area from the stain.
  • If the stain is not removed, keep on the stain for another 15 minutes.
  • Scrub with a sponge scrubber.
  • Turn on the faucet to wash away the paste and stains off your tub.

How to Remove Old Tomato Sauce Stains From Carpet

Snacking between makes is a habit that many are guilty of. And it is truly irresistible. One of the things that makes them so its tomato ketchup or sauce, it can liven up the blandest of dishes. It is the accompaniment to your dishes when you serve the guests. However, this same sauce can turn out to be a source of trouble if it manages to spill. It can stain clothes and carpets very easily. Here are some easy tips on how to get them off quickly:

Know what kind of sauce it is that is staining your carpet. Tomato ketchup often contains sugar and that can caramelize and contribute to the stain. So before you apply any heat on it, be sure to remove the traces of ketchup as much as you can. In the case of fresh sauce, blot off the excess sauce as much as possible.

In both cases, try to scrape it off and then dampen a cloth slightly in warm water and rub on it till it is considerably lighter. Then, use a mild detergent, without bleach, and rub on the stain. Often times, this is enough to remove the stains of sauce. If the problem persists, you can dab vinegar on the area and leave it out in the sunlight as that often breaks up the compounds.

If the sauce was oily or greasy in nature, then chances are that the stain will be a lot more stubborn. In that case, you can use a concentrated form of lime juice as anything mild will not really work on it. But whatever cleaning agent you might be using on the carpet, it is advisable to conduct a patch test on the backside so as to see if it produces any adverse effect on the material.
