All of us like our cars absolutely clean and tidy. However, there are some who enjoy taking rides in a car without the least concern towards its cleanliness. Throwing gum inside the car is not only unhygienic but it is a real task getting it off the car floor. It sticks to the car floor and with its ability to attract dirt and grime, pretty soon poses a ghastly sight. Here are some tips to help you get rid of gum from the car floor.
Chewing gum is rubbery and stays likewise in room temperature. You can start by rubbing ice on the gum. That will completely harden the gum and then you can pull it off in a big chunk. If you try to pull it off in room temperature then a part of it will come off after much pulling and will most likely bring up a portion of the car carpet as well! Even after you have managed to pull off the gum, be sure to keep another surface ready to put it on- for which plastic works best. Or else, you will simply end up removing gum from one part, only to apply it on another!
One can also use excessive heat to melt the gum. However, too much heat can also affect the car carpet. Likewise, a sharp and hard object can also be used to scrape off the gum. But too much of abrasion with it can also rub on the material if you are not careful. There are solvents and cleaners available to help you with the task as well, but be sure to conduct a patch test on the car carpet before you start copious application. Application of pressure should depend on the nature of the car carpet.
