NON TOXIC CLEANING TIPS

Quite a few chemical housecleaning products available in the market are hazardous for our health and can cause allergies, asthma, sinusitis or bronchitis. As a part of the treatment the use of synthetic household cleaners should be cut down.

There has been a recent growth in the availability of commercial non-toxic cleaners as environmentally friendly and healthier alternatives. If you are going for professional cleaning services, ask your service company for these products, and help in promoting a greener earth.

But the common products found from scratch do not work any less better than their commercial counter-parts and are much more pocket friendly.

Here are some non-toxic DIY cleaning tips:

Lets start with the BATHROOMS:

  • Toilets : 1/2 cup Baking Soda and 9-10 drops of tea tree oil and 1/4 cup of vinegar would fizz out the tough stains on your toilet bowl as you scrub it. For daily use spray the mix of 1 cup of vinegar and 4-5 drops of tea tree/lemon oil, let it stay and wipe.
  • Tubs and showers : Vinegar is a powerful weapon against the formation of mold and mildew. Spray on the growth, let it stay, and then rinse .

Moving on to the KITCHEN:

  • Countertops : Spray with equal quantity of water and vinegar and wipe clean. If your top is made of any natural stone, avoid vinegar and use rubbing alcohol instead.
  • Oven : To remove the tough grease formations on and around the oven, use baking soda with salt.Apply on the stains, let it stay before scrubbing and wiping clean.

Now to the LAUNDRY ROOM:

  • Bleach : Skip the commercial bleach and its harmful effect, use some lemon juice instead just before the rinse cycle.
  • Laundry Detergent : the right combination of citric acid with baking soda, washing soda and pure glycerin soap is a natural borax free detergent.

For the REST OF THE HOUSE:

  • Floors :Vinegar and warm water in the ratio 1:2 is an effective cleaner for tile flooring. Do not use on wood though.
  • Walls : Like floors a mix of water and vinegar does the trick, for black stains, scrub the spot with baking soda.
  • Furniture polish :Use a soft cloth and a mix 1/4 cup lemon juice with 1/2 cup olive oil to rub your furnitures and keep them shining.
